Plain Language Translator
SkillSkill
Translate dense legal, medical, financial, or government documents into plain English at a target reading level while preserving load-bearing terms and flagging genuinely ambiguous clauses.
About
The document was written to protect them, not to be understood by you.
Plain Language Translator is an OpenClaw skill that rewrites dense legal, medical, financial, and government text at a reading level you choose — 6th, 8th, 10th, or 12th grade — without dropping a single date, dollar amount, obligation, or condition. It preserves a glossary of must-keep terms verbatim, generates a plain-language definition table, and explicitly flags clauses that resist simplification because the original is genuinely ambiguous.
What it does
- Rewrites each clause at the target reading level: shorter sentences, active voice, plain synonyms for jargon
- Preserves a user-defined glossary of terms that must not be paraphrased (defined contract terms, clinical terms, regulatory labels)
- Generates a side-by-side definition table — original term on the left, plain-language meaning on the right
- Flags clauses that cannot be simplified without introducing new ambiguity, with a note on why and a recommendation to seek expert review
- Handles legal, medical, financial, and government document domains, each with its own jargon patterns
What's in the package
- SKILL.md — the full workflow: reading level guide, glossary setup, section-by-section translation process, ambiguity flagging, and definition table format.
