About
Most API design mistakes are consistency problems, not architectural ones. The endpoint works — but the error format is different from the other endpoint. The status code is technically valid but surprises every developer who integrates. This skill installs one coherent set of conventions: resource-oriented URLs, correct HTTP semantics, a single error format, ISO 8601 everywhere, prefixed string IDs, and versioning from day one.
Core Capabilities
- Design resource-oriented URL hierarchies with correct HTTP method semantics (GET/POST/PUT/PATCH/DELETE)
- Assign correct HTTP status codes — 2xx, 4xx, 5xx — and avoid the 200-everything anti-pattern
- Define a consistent error response format with machine-readable codes, human messages, and per-field details
- Choose and implement cursor-based or offset-based pagination with correct envelope structure
- Write OpenAPI 3.1 YAML specs with schemas, parameters, responses, and security schemes
