A linear setup guide for getting a multi-agent AI stack running from scratch: OpenClaw on a VPS, Docker compose, MCP server registration, and first agent configuration, without spending a week on trial and error.
The guide runs as a sequence, not a reference doc. Follow it top to bottom and you will have a working setup. It covers: server requirements, Docker compose configuration, the mcporter MCP registration path (changed in v2026.2.26 and not documented), first agent configuration, inter-agent communication setup, and the 5 most common setup failures with specific fixes.
Assumes basic Docker familiarity and SSH access to a Linux VPS. Does not assume prior OpenClaw experience.
